President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda stated that further relations between Ukraine and Poland should be based on historical memory.

Duda said this after memorial events in the old cemetery in the village of Olyka.

« 75th anniversary is a sad date for Polish families. It was not a war — it was ethnic cleansing to remove the Poles from the territories on which they lived. Here, 100,000 people were tortured», the Polish president said.

Duda also noted that he was shocked by the imbalance, because, according to him
«Only 5 thousand Ukrainians during those events killed», reports Unian.

«I want to appeal to the Ukrainian authorities, as well as representatives of the Institute of National Remembrance, so that the families of the killed Poles have an opportunity to bow to the graves that should be given names. So that we could work not only in the archives, but also order the cemeteries of the Poles who were tortured during the events of the 75th year ago», Duda said.

As «Journalist» reported, the Polish president arrived in Lutsk to commemorate the victims of the Volhynia tragedy of 1943-1944.
