European Commission does not yet have the authority to regulate the Russian project of Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline under European rules, as some European countries do not support such solution.
This was stated by President of the European Council Donald Tusk at a press conference following the results of the Ukraine-EU summit.
«We discussed «Nord Stream-2», but, unfortunately, there is little news. European Commission is looking for a mandate to apply the European energy regulations to this project. Unfortunately, some member states do not support this view. My personal vision – «Nord Stream -2» is a mistake and does not serve our strategic interests, security, rules», Tusk said.
In his turn, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko noted the need to define a joint approach with the EU to stop construction, since «Nord Stream-2» is a geopolitical project designed to put Europe in dependence from Russia press-service.
«This is a geopolitical project, which is designed to make Ukraine weaker and deprive the income from using the existing transportation system. Also, the Russian Federation wants to take over $ 20 billion from the European Union for the construction of an infrastructure project that Europe does not need», Poroshenko stressed.
As «Journalist» reported Construction of «Nord Stream-2» will begin in summer even without the permission of Denmark.
