A forest fires, fanned by strong winds, broke out on February 24 in the French Mediterranean island of Corsica, The Local informs.
According to a representative of the regional government, Gerard Gavor, fires starts due to burning stubble, which went out of control because of very strong winds.
It is noted that one of the largest fire center was detected in the northern coastal city of Calvi, on February 24: almost 1,300 hectares of forest burned out there. In turn, in the southern part of the island, to the east of Ajaccio, about 80 hectares of forest burned down.
“Airplanes were attracted to extinguish the fire, because firefighters cannot get to mountain areas. The planes dumped fire-retardant substances on this territory until no house or farm was damaged,” the report says.
As The Journalist reported, four people died after a strong hurricane in Italy.
