According to UNIAN with reference to Science, scientists from Stanford University in the United States were able to name speed of cell death for the first time.

As it turned out, first one of the cell sites is damaged – thus the cell begins to die. Damage provokes the release of a chemical, which researchers call «a signal of death».

«Death Signal» in turn activates the launch of a «trigger wave». This is a chain reaction that affects other parts of the cell and releases the remaining «death signals».

It is interesting that the process does not stop at the death of one cell – it is launched on neighboring cells. It is known that the chain reaction continues to the absolute release of the «death signal», i.e. before his complete demise.
The velocity of «trigger wave» is 1.8 millimeters per hour. This is the rate of cell death.
