Today, February 21, International Mother Language Day is celebrated around the world. About this reports UNN.
International Mother Language Day was established at the XXX session of General Conference of UNESCO in November 1999, in order to protect linguistic and cultural diversity.
In Ukraine, where 130 national minorities live, who are carriers of 79 languages, according to 10 Art. Constitution, the state language is Ukrainian.
However, in Ukraine, there are languages that are on the verge of extinction. Among them are two Gypsy dialects, Galician Karaite dialect, as well as Krymchak and Urum.
In our state, annually, on November 9, on the day of memory of St. Nestor the Chronicler, is celebrated the Day of Ukrainian literature and language.
Previously, the "Journalist" reported, in November in Kyiv will open the memorial to Revolution of Dignity Heroes’.
