National Philharmonic will host an evening of guitar music

Guitar music festival in National Philharmonic of Ukraine is held once a year. Conductor Ihor Palkin, together with philharmonic symphonic orchestra and guitarist Andriy Ostapenko, prepared a program with musical works of Alexander Tansman and Joaquin Rodrigo. Alexander Tansman, an outstanding Polish composer, pianist and conductor, for many years was friends with the Spanish guitarist Andres Segovia. It was for him that Tansman wrote his works for guitar and a concert for guitar and orchestra «Dedication to Manuel de Falla» – not an exception. Tansman wrote this work in 1954. Segovia allegedly remained dissatisfied with the solo party, which seemed too simple to him. Therefore, Tansman never so orchestrated this work, leaving instructions in the piano part. Later the concert was orchestrated by the Italian guitarist, composer and teacher Angelo Gilardino.

Concerto «Aranjuez» for guitar and orchestra Joaquin Rodrigo – is the most famous work of Spanish composer and most popular piece of classical music of the twentieth century. Written in Paris in 1939, a concert dedicated to guitarist Rehino Sainz de la Masa, who was the first performer. History of writing is connected with gardens of royal court in Aranjuez, where Rodrigo and his wife spent a honeymoon. This work is particularly due to its second part, Adagio, where the main theme sounds in the English horn and is an allusion to Andalusian liturgical chants, performed during religious rites in the Holy Week.

Also in the concert will be the symphonic scherzo of Frenchman Paul Duke «Sorcerer’s Apprentice» and «Spanish Capriccio» by Rimsky-Korsakov.
