Over 445 thousand children became first-graders of «New Ukrainian School»

In the new academic year, 448,000 Ukrainian children became first-graders. These students will be studied by new state standards, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said during the speech at the All-Ukrainian Forum «New Ukrainian School: Start of the Reform, Participation of the Communities».

«The program «New Ukrainian School» starts with the smallest – first-graders and will grow together with them step by step. On 1 September, all 22,000 first grades – 448,000 pupils – will start studying, finally, according to the new state standard,» – the Ukrainian leader has noted.

According to Poroshenko, the country has been waiting for a new educational reform for more than a quarter of a century to come closer to the modern standards of the educational system of the world’s leading countries.

In addition, the President noted that this year in Ukrainian schools will open more than 8 thousand classes for children with special educational needs.

«The new law guarantees the education for children and young people with special educational needs on an equal basis with other students in an inclusive educational environment. This year, 8212 inclusive classes are planned to be open, which is 40% more than previous year,» – Poroshenko noted.
