The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has adopted the law on the transfer of the St. Andrew’s Church (Kyiv) to the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, 112 Ukraine news agency reports.
The transfer of the church was backed by 237 deputies. It is noted that the Church itself will remain in state ownership, and the Ecumenical Patriarchate will be able to hold services, rites and ceremonies there.
It is worth noting that this decision will lead to the exclusion of St. Andrew’s Church from the list of immovable cultural heritage sites of the Sophia Kyivs’ka National Reserve.
