Representative of the Ecumenical Patriarchate at the World Council of Churches in Geneva Archbishop Job of Telmessos (Getcha) stated that the Ecumenical Patriarchate did not recognize anathema, imposed by the Russian Orthodox Church on the Ukrainian hetman Ivan Mazepa, as canonical.
According to the Archbishop, it was imposed on hetman for political reasons, the Glavkom inform agency reports.
«Despite the imposition by the Russian Church of the non-canonical anathema on the hetman Mazepa, the representatives of the Ecumenical Patriarchate did not recognize it, because it was imposed for political reasons, as a means of politically ideological repression and had no religious, theological or canonical reasons,» – said Job of Telmessos (Getcha).
As The Journalist reported, the Ecumenical Patriarchate appointed two representatives in Kyiv.
