Today, on August 9th, well-known public and political figure, the second president of Ukraine Leonid Danylovych Kuchma, is 80 years old reports Journalist.
Kuchma’s eleven-year presidency (July 19th, 1994 – January 23rd, 2005) Ukrainians recall in different ways: both as an era of stability, as an unstable period, as a time of prosperity, and as a time of general poverty.
The author of the book «Ukraine is not Russia» is also especially remembered by the inhabitants of Dnipro city, where Leonid Danylovych worked as general director of State Enterprise Production Association Southern Machine Building Plant named after A.M. Makarov (1986-1992).
It is worth noting that the jubilee also served as prime minister of Ukraine for eleven months.
On February 2nd, 2015, President Petro Poroshenko appointed Kuchma the official representative of Ukraine to the trilateral group for the settlement of the conflict in Donbass.
On September 12th, 2015 during the annual conference Yalta European Strategy Kuchma said that Russia wants to «freeze» the conflict in Donbass, because it is very profitable.
In addition to many Ukrainian and foreign awards and titles, Kuchma is an Honorary Citizen of the city of Dnipro.
