People’s Deputy Oleksiy Honcharenko proposed Russian President Vladimir Putin to exchange him for political prisoner Oleg Sentsov. This he wrote on his Facebook page.
People’s deputy from Petro Poroshenko Bloc and member of the Ukrainian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Oleksiy Honcharenko wrote a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which he proposed to exchange it for Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov, who is in Russian colony.
«Today there was news that Oleg is getting worse and worse. We are doing everything possible to free him and more than 60 of our political prisoners from Russian prisons. But they are still there. I suggest taking me instead of Oleg. If Putin agrees, he is ready to fly to Moscow immediately. My only condition: the freedom of Oleg Sentsov!» – wrote Honcharenko.
According to the People’s Deputy, he wrote to Putin that Sentsov has been starving for 90 days in a row and no ombudsman, priest, or Ukrainian diplomats are allowed to visit him.
«In fact, you use Sentsov as a hostage. In world practice there are examples when hostages were exchanged for representatives of the authorities. As a people’s deputy and as a representative from Ukraine in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, I did everything I could to free Oleg from prison. Therefore, the last thing I can do is offer myself in exchange for Sentsov», he wrote to Putin in letter.
Honcharenko added that he headed the inter-factional association of people’s deputies of Ukraine Crimea, which sets as its main task the return of the peninsula to the jurisdiction of Ukraine. «I was in the Crimea when your troops burst into it. I raised the state flag of Ukraine over Ai-Petri already during your occupation. I was in Red Square, when free citizens of Russian Federation marched in memory of Boris Nemtsov. I openly declared and declare that the war in Donbass is conducted by your country and your soldiers. I am sure that formally you will find why I should be imprisoned. Release Sentsov!»- said Goncharenko.
Recall, Sentsov was sentenced to 20 years in prison on August 25th, 2015.
Earlier The Journalist reported that Ombudsman appealed to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights with a request for the release of Ukrainians illegally detained in the Russian Federation.
