An interesting find, for the territory of Ukraine, was discovered by researchers in the Kherson oblast in Berislavskyi district, near the village of Tyaginka. About this informs press service of Institute of Archeology of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

According to Svitlana Belyaeva, the head of excavations, the Lithuanian fortress appears at the end of the 14th century – the first half of the 15th century; it occupied an area of more than 40 hectares. Until its appearance on this site, there was a city of the Golden Horde, founded in the XIII century.

«This year we found a lot of Tatar coins with a tamga. This indicates a developed trade. On many coins there is Genoese stamp, the release of Kafa. Last year, coins of the late 14th century- early XV century were found. Coins, found this year, have not yet been given to numismatists, but we think that they are related to the same period. Here passed just the border of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, at that time it was the Kievan principality, with the Golden Horde. There was a crossing over the river, there was a customs house, everything here was closely connected between two states and two peoples, so it is very important to dig further», said Svitlana Belyaeva.

It should be noted that in addition to the finds of everyday life, military affairs and trade, fragments of ceramic pipes have been found, indicating the presence of sewerage in the fortress.

A significant problem for archaeologists is that some of the fortress was poorly preserved, because of the activities of the local population, which carried away stones for their homes for many years.
