Starring roles were played by Rooney Mara (Mary Magdalene) and Joaquin Phoenix (Jesus Christ). Filming took place in October-December 2016 in Italy.
The release of the film was postponed for a year due to the fact that the film company The Weinstein Company refused to rent a tape. In March of this year, it became known that the film company IFC Films acquired the rights to distribute a film in the USA.
