Ukraine ranked last in the financial literacy rating among the countries members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), sharing this place by points with neighboring Poland.
This data was received after the study of the Financial Literacy Index of the OECD, conducted by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), together with the National Bank of Ukraine.
“Regarding the results of Ukraine, I have both good and bad news. I will start with the bad one: according to the financial literacy index calculated as a result of the survey, Ukraine, unfortunately, ranked last among OECD countries with a score of 11.6. The positive news is that we shared this place with our neighbor Poland, and this inspires a little bit of optimism,” said Yulia Vitka, deputy head of the USAID Transformation of the Financial Sector project.
According to her, the survey was conducted in all Ukraine’s oblasts among citizens of different levels of well-being aged from 18 to 79; the survey’s error is ± 2%.
According to the presented infographic, the leading countries (in terms of financial literacy) are France, Norway and Canada, with indices of 14.9, 14.6 and 14.6, respectively.
According to the study, the lowest score on financial literacy among Ukrainians is presented by the age group from 18 to 24 years old, the highest – by the group from 25 to 35 years.
Also, the survey results indicate that about half of Ukrainians do not object to tax evasion, with the vast majority of citizens willing to know how their taxes are being spent.
As The Journalist reported, the National Bank continue to study e-hryvnia as alternative to the retail payments.
