Ukraine intend to ban the use and sale of plastic bags at the state level. The relevant bill #2051 “On reducing the number of plastic bags in civilian use,” published on the Verkhovna Rada website.

According to the document, plastic bags up to 50 micrometers thick, as well as oxo-degradable plastic bags will be banned in Ukraine from 2022. At the same time, Ukrainians will be able to use biodegradable packages.

The ban will not apply to ultralight bags used for packaging fresh fish, meat and products thereof, as well as bulk products and ice.

Starting from January 1, 2022, non-compliant packages will have to be disposed of at the expense of the business entity that purchased them. At the same time, the fine for distributing prohibited packages will amount to UAH 1.7-3.4 thousand, and for repeated violation the fine will rise to UAH 3.4-8.5 thousand.
