PJSC Ukrhydroenergo plans to develop a feasibility study for the construction of 200 MW energy storage systems by the end of the year, which is planned to be placed on the territory of four hydroelectric power stations, ExPro reports.

“We work together with the World Bank and USAID. We plan to develop a feasibility study by the end of the year. This is about 200 MW of storage batteries and 100 MW of the sun energy; this is not for ‘green’ tariff, but for our own needs,” Ihor Sirota, CEO of the company said.

Ukrenergo is constantly faced with difficulty of balancing of the energy system of Ukraine due to the sharp increase in electricity production by solar stations (at feed-in tariff) in the daytime amid falling total energy consumption. That is why the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, together with NPC Ukrenergo, developed a project for the construction of a 200 MW energy storage system that could solve the issue of capacity regulation.

Acting Energy Minister: Electricity import from Russia, Belarus cost USD 186m to Ukraine.
