Wage arrears in Ukraine decreased by almost UAH 700m in a month

According to the operative data of the State Labor Service of Ukraine, the amount of wage arrears of enterprises throughout Ukraine decreased by almost UAH 700 million, or by 18%, from UAH 3.8 billion as of December 7, 2020 to UAH 3.1 billion as of January 11, 2021. The Journalist reported with reference to the press center of the Ministry of Economy.

So, on December 17, 2020, the Ministry of Economy held a regular meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group on the payment of wage arrears. It was decided to introduce immediate measures to reduce arrears at enterprises of the public sector of the economy.

Donetsk (UAH 299 million), Lviv (UAH 169 million) and Kharkiv (UAH 97 million) regions made the largest contribution to debt coverage, but still Donetsk region is the largest debtor with an indicator of UAH 719 million.

The city of Kyiv, which is the fifth administrative unit in terms of wage arrears (UAH 337 million), this figure decreased by only UAH 10.2 million.

The lion’s share (89.1%) or UAH 623.8 million of wage arrears is paid by state-owned enterprises. Of these, the enterprises of the Ministry of Energy reduced the debt by UAH 535 million, the enterprises of Ukravtodor – by UAH 54 million, and the enterprises of Ukroboronprom – by almost UAH 43 million, which is the largest state debtor (UAH 587 million) in Ukraine.
