The US is ready to assist Ukraine in the implementation of the Tomos of autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church after the decision on its granting, reported in the Verkhovna Rada.
«Putin’s propaganda uses a lot of values of free world to attack him, and Putin will use religious question to influence both parliamentary and presidential elections in Ukraine», speaker of Ukrainian parliament, Andrii Parubiy, is convinced.
Head of Verkhovna Rada stressed that creation of an autocephalous Ukrainian Orthodox Church is not only a religious issue, but also a matter of national security.
In his turn, the ambassador at large for international issues of religious freedom of the US State Department Sam Brownback noted that «Ukraine faces a big task – the issue of autocephaly of the Ukrainian local Orthodox Church».
«We do not interfere in decision to grant Tomos about autocephaly of Ukrainian Orthodox Church. But if such a decision is made, we will support it», ambassador assured.
As reported by The Journalist Patriarch Filaret said that the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra become property of a single local Orthodox Church in Ukraine.
