An underground crypt was discovered in Subotiv (Cherkasy oblast), which is, in experts’ opinion, the burial place of Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky, according to the website of the “Fund Podzemel’ie” (Dungeon) public organization.
The archaeologists note that the grave was found in the St. Il’inska Church. Under the floor of the temple at a 2-meter depth the scientists recorded a geophysical anomaly, caused by a large archaeological site.
“Previously, it was not possible to explore the underground space at such a depth without destroying it. According to the results of GPR data processing, we obtained a clear three-dimensional image of the anomaly in the central part of the church. Its geometry and dimensions (length 3 m, width 1.3 m) correspond to an object similar to a crypt”, the report says.
The researchers note that the new data on the disposal of the hetman may result in changing the generally accepted version of his death.

Earlier The Journalist reported that an ancient grave had been found in the center of Chernihiv.
