The illegal land works were discovered on the territory of State Historical and Cultural Reserve Starodavniy Volodymyr on the address Knyazya Romana Street, 9, in Volodymyr-Volynskyi city in Volyn Oblast, in north-western Ukraine. This land plot is about 100 square meters and 5 meters deep from the earth’s surface which is rough violation of reserve’s regime, its current protection laws and excavation or construction work regime on the territory reserve.
It was reported to the «The Journalist» by press department of the State Enterprise "Guard Archaeological Service of Ukraine" at the Institute of Archeology of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
According to the current law it is forbidden to carry out any excavation work associated with the construction, landscaping area, engineering networks before materials of the archaeological research areas in which works are done (and project documentation for the building, is reconstructed) will be presented. This statement is valid because the specified area is located in the state historical and cultural reserve Starodavniy Volodymyr is located in the protection zone of architectural monuments of national importance Assumption Cathedral (84/1 security number), in the zone of the valuable archaeological and cultural layer and development of the reserve.
Nevertheless, despite the above, land works involving machinery were carried out. As a result of the actions, a valuable historic cultural layer of the reserve was violated. It is noteworthy that a large number of moving archaeological material and expressive marks of fully / partially destroyed archaeological objects are recorded.
As «The Journalist» earlier reported Ukrainian archaeologists made a sensational discovery: a double burial, where man had an arrowhead in the chest.
