The Ambassador of Poland to Ukraine Bartosz Cichocki said that since the resumption of work in late May, Polish visa centers and consulates in Ukraine have received 16,000 requests from Ukrainians for work visas, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
“I will cite the latest data I have: since the resumption of work of visa centers and consulates, we have received 16,000 applies from Ukrainians for work visas. On average, we are now issuing a visa on the next day, because this is a very facilitated and priority process,” the diplomat said.
To the ambassador, about 5% of Ukrainians returned from Poland to Ukraine during lockdown, while the majority of them stayed in Poland, and the work of the Polish consular departments and visa centers in Ukraine was resumed in late May.
“At the end of May, we resumed the work of our consular departments and visa centers in non-contact mode of operation. Now it is possible to visit the consulate personally, but, I emphasize, only regarding issuing of work visas matter – for seasonal workers in the agricultural sector and for drivers of international transport,” the Polish diplomat emphasized.
The ambassador also said that Ukrainians who remained in Poland during the quarantine and who had expired their visas did not oblige to return to Ukraine to extend the validity of documents permitting residence in Poland.
“This can be done after the end of the epidemic,” Cichocki added.
He also noted that there are six Polish consular professional departments in six Ukrainian cities, namely, in Kyiv, Lviv, Lutsk, Vinnytsia, Odesa and Kharkiv.
According to the diplomat, Poland had issued a record in the European Union number of visas for Ukrainians: 60% out of all work visas issued by the EU worldwide.
Mr Cichocki also called on Ukrainian citizens coming to work in Poland to register with labor agencies, work legally and do not forget to buy insurance.
