The so-called “crisis room” for victims of domestic violence will appear in Kiev in 2020, the Deputy Chairman of the Kyiv City State Administration Maryna Honda said.
The victims of domestic abuse will be able to stay in the “crisis room” for up to 10 days.
“The 15-51 contact center interviewed 3,500 citizens. Most of them clearly understand what domestic abuse really is. There is a clear understanding of the classification of types of violence. But more than 2,800 of respondents have no understanding where to go if they become a victim of domestic violence,” Honda said.
It is clarified that the victims often do not want to contact social services, since then they can stay alone with the aggressor. To rectify this situation, the city authorities plan to open a “crisis room” in the spring of 2020.
“This is a “room” for the cases, when, for example, the police documented the fact of violence, but the victim needs time to find all the documents and to figure out their next step. Therefore, a person can stay in such a “crisis room” for 10 days, receive primary psychological help and undergo a medical examination. If a person has relatives, we will contact them. If victim has no place to go, then documents are collected for settling victims in the shelter before the issue to be resolved,” the official stressed.
