The so-called “Supreme” Court of Russian-occupied Crimea has rejected the defense’s appeal and left unchanged the measure of restraint in the form of detention to the arrested Crimean Tatar activist Edem Bekirov, the Crimea.Realies reports citing the prisoner’s lawyer Oleksii Laden.

The lawyer stressed that the suspicions of committing a serious crime put forward by the Federal Security Service to Bekirov could not considered as the grounds for keeping him in the detention center.

“However, the court, as usual, has ignored all the defense’s arguments. It seems to me that it is easier for the court to make an unfair decision than to figure out what the lawyers and Bekirov both are talking about. In fact, a person is being kept in the torture conditions of the detention center every day, and Russia cannot provide him with any proper detention conditions,” the human rights activist said.

During the court hearing, Bekirov said that he wanted to live, but it was very difficult for him to live in the conditions of the detention facility.

“I consider the case against myself to be fabricated by the FSB officers,” the activist said.

As The Journalist reported, Russian security forces in occupied Crimea conducted new searches in homes of Crimean Tatars.
