In May of this year, the first in Ukraine Klezmer Music Festival Kyiv Klezmer Fest was successfully held in Kiev. However, yesterday, October 10, one of the co-organizers of this event, Mitya Herasimov on his Facebook page stated, that the whole idea, in particular, and the concept , and the format of this project belongs to him, Mrs. Iryna Zadnipryana, as well as to their team, and at the moment they are trying to take away this idea.
The statement by Mr. Herasimov also notes that Nataliya Sklyarska and Department of Culture of the Kyiv City State Administration, which provided financial support, helped to implement the first festival of Klezmer music in Kyiv. However, according to the author of the publication, during the organization of the Kyiv Klezmer Fest there were a lot of problems, and all this was the fault of Nataliya Sklyarska and her team.
The Journalist talked with the director of Department of Culture of the Kyiv City State Administration (KSCA) Diana Popova regarding this conflict. As the official noted, Kyiv Klezmer Fest is the result of joint work, therefore, the reproaches of Mr. Herasimov are not quite true.
«I don’t know the situation within the organizing committee of the Kyiv Klezmer Fest, because as a representative of Department of Culture, KSCA dealt exclusively with Nataliнa Sklarska, with whom I have an agreement and signed agreements. She is the organizer of this festival for me. Of course, at some stages, the organizer connects any, in his opinion, necessary people in order to create a quality product. Thus, she decided to attract Mitya Herasimov, because he is one of the famous klezmer of Ukraine, and his group Pushkin Klezmer Band was, so to speak, the forwarder of this event. Now neither Department of Culture, nor the Kyiv City State Administration either knows or understands what took place between the organizers in order to understand the whole problem. We have already held more than 300 different events, and for the first time I see such a conflict within the project. In my opinion, it is unfair that Mitya Herasimov considers all the idea of Kyiv Klezmer Fest as his own. It is not true. This is a completely joint product», said the Director of the Department of Culture of the KSCA, commenting on the situation to The Journalist.
In addition, Diana Popova noted that, in her opinion, the statement of Mitya Herasimov, published on his page on the social network, is an attempt to draw strangers into the misunderstanding that arose around Kyiv Klezmer Fest because of the personal ambitions of the organizers.
«As for what Mitya Herasimov wrote on Facebook, I saw there unacceptable things. It seems to me that this is a manipulation and an attempt to draw strangers into interpersonal conflict. After all, if people wanted to reach an understanding, then they would sit down at the negotiating table. If they didn’t do it themselves, then they would come to me and tell me about the problem. We would try to solve it. However, if a person chooses the way to publicly describe his grievances, while not speaking about the problem personally to the people to whom he refers, then such a dialogue is unacceptable for me», said director of the Department of Culture of the KSCA.
According to Diana Popova, for the sake of the wonderful tradition, which was established this year in Ukraine, and the continuation of the Klezmer music festival, this misunderstanding needs to be resolved and it should be done in a dialogue format, but only if both parties have such a desire. In turn, the Department of Culture of the Kyiv City State Administration and Diana Popova are ready to join such negotiations.
«I, as the head of the Department of Culture of the KSCA, as well as the Kyiv resodent, am interested in the product that we have created. I really wanted an important date, namely the 100th anniversary of the most popular Klezmer composition «Khava Nagila», which was written in Ukraine, we used to renew the Klezmer tradition. Therefore, I had the idea of such a festival. I am grateful to the embassy of the United States of America and the embassy of the State of Israel, which helped us to receive the best klezmer from all over the world. It is difficult for me to appreciate the contribution of each of the organizers to the fact that the final product was just that. If the parties to this conflict want not only to present their vision of the situation to the general public, but are ready for dialogue, then the KSCA Department of Culture is ready to try to help resolve this situation. I believe that it is necessary to establish communication in order not to cut the wings of the project and continue the wonderful festival of Klezmer music Kyiv Klezmer Fest, which was finally founded in the capital of Ukraine», said Diana Popova.
