The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has announced on a record number of applicants after the first month of opening the competition for the selection for participation in 24th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition to the Akademik Vernadsky station. This is reported in the department.
It is reported that 116 candidates (26 of which are women) have submitted applications for the first month of the competition for the selection of polar explorers of the 24th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition (2019–2020) to the Akademik Vernadsky station.
«This year, by the results of the first month, we have a record number of applications, because for the first time an open tender has been announced for the selection of a team for a station,» noted the Acting Director of the National Academy of Science (National Antarctic Research Center – ed.) Evhen Dykiy.
It is noted that it was rather difficult to get on the expedition, moreover, it was a kind of closed men’s club, in which there were no women. However, this time there are no gender restrictions regarding possible members of the expedition.
«Today there is more than 10 people per place participating in the expedition. Most applicants apply for the posts of a communications system administrator, a cook and a doctor. So far, 17 candidates (10 men and 7 women) have gone to the scientists places,» the message says.
As The Journalist reported, Ukraine is planning new scientific expeditions to Antarctica.
