Veterans who return from war often cannot find themselves, realize in life after what they saw and experienced in the east of Ukraine. In the «Journalist» studio, Iryna Khevpa talked with Prymachenko spouses who are engaged not only in volunteering, but also in rehabilitating the Ukrainian military after returning to peaceful territory.
«Creative Kryivka» helps the guys after returning from the war. Their psyche is broken, they cannot find themselves, they cannot calm down, they cannot see how everything here is peaceful, quiet, in harmony – and there is war. These people gather and go either to the sea or to the Carpathians. They rest there for 7-10 days, draw, ride on horses, bathe in vats, and talk with psychologists, calm down, find balance», said Yana Prymachenko.
As the volunteer noted, this kind of activity is not financed in our country and this creates certain difficulties, because there are many veterans, but there is not always an opportunity to help them.
«We have a sanatorium financed, in which a person goes to some unnecessary procedures, with no one, without communicating. Time goes by; you need to change the system. Since my husband returned from the war, I understand how necessary rehabilitation is. This is a very important matter, but our organization is constantly forced to seek money», the military’s wife noted.
Dmytro Prymachenko, who was in the ranks of the first defenders who voluntarily went to the East, knows from his own experience how important rehabilitation and psychological support is for those who returned from the war.
«There is negative experiences of other countries, when warriors who return from war, remain without necessary attention. There are cases of suicide, drug addiction, alcoholism, violations of the law, and the like. It is difficult to adequately assess the scale of this problem, but it exists. Such an organization as «Creative Kryivka» will not be able to win a state tender for rehabilitation, because from the positions of our power it does not meet certain characteristics, which in reality are outdated. «Creative Kryivka» has been collecting funds for 4 years and shouting that this is necessary; it has been producing results for 4 years. And the state, meanwhile, uses an old system. There are initiatives that work for the result. And the result is a feedback from a person: «It helped me». We call on the state to pay attention to such organizations, listen to them», said the veteran of the ATO.
During the conversation, Prymachenko’s spouses also told how they involve schoolchildren in their volunteer activities and how the pupils help the Ukrainian defenders.
