The Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers Dmytro Dubilet has said that Cabinet to spend UAH 2 billion less on the census than it was planned previously. He wrote about this on his Facebook page.
“All-Ukrainian population census is among my Top 20 projects. The census was scheduled for the end of 2020, about UAH 3.4 billion were allocated from the state budget for it and was planned to involve about 100,000 interviewers with tablets,” Dubilet wrote.
According to the minister, the census is an important event for Ukraine, but an impermissible luxury at the same time.
Therefore, it was decided not to attract 100,000 interviewers, but to conduct an electronic census in order to find out how many people live in each settlement of Ukraine. Specialists will collect anonymous information from mobile operators about number of users and their location; data from registry offices and Pension Fund; data from opinion polls on the number of SIM cards per Ukrainian.
“As a result, we will get more accurate information of how many residents live in a particular locality. The data collected this way will probably be more accurate than collected in traditional census, since not all Ukrainians open the door of their appartments to those who conduct the survey,” Dubilet wrote.
The results of the study will be announced at the end of this year.
