The Сarpet Fair (Kylymova Yarmarka) trade chain and the Novus shopping center had placed antisemitic ads in the Kyiv subway. Eduard Dolinsky, director of the Ukrainian Jewish Committee, wrote about this on Facebook, attaching the corresponding photo.

He noted in a commentary to The Journalist inform agency, that such an advertisement uses stereotypes of Jews.

“It would seem that they just depicted a Jew, but this was done in an antisemitic way, because this image is showing not a doctor or teacher, but the merchant. This image causes unpleasant emotions or stereotypes. I believe that placing such an advertisement is a mistake by both marketers and the trade chain,” Eduard Dolinsky explained.

To him, the Ukrainian Jewish Committee intends to turn to the trade chain itself:

“We will most likely turn to the trade network [involved in the placement of this advertisement, ed.] with the requirement to remove the content of the ad, which images Jews in such a negative context. We will also write a statement or complaint to the Novus shopping center. I believe it is necessary to conduct special work for advertisers in order to avoid using such xenophobic moments in the future.”
