The representative of the President of Ukraine in the Cabinet of Ministers Andriy Gerus after a meeting with representatives of the government and relevant departments chaired by the head of state regarding the situation on the electricity market, said that the team of President Zelensky has developed draft decisions that will stop the rise in electricity prices.
“It is necessary to consider three decisions, which in total should lead to a significant reduction in the price of electricity for household consumers,” he said.
The president’s representative noted the need to revise the government’s decree imposing special obligations on Ukrhydroenergo and Energoatom, which would reduce the Ukrenergo tariff by more than three times.
In addition, according to Gerus, it is necessary to resolve the issue with the so-called price caps (limit the price of electricity). It makes sense to raise the maximum night price by approximately 10%, and cut the maximum daily price by 15-20%.
The president’s representative recalled the discussions that continued around the tariff set by Ukrenergo, which included the payment of the “green tariff”. Gerus noted that now this tariff has increased significantly and has been disputed in the courts, therefore, when a new resolution on assignment of special duties and a new tariff of Ukrenergo appear, this may result in a reduction of the tariff for end consumers by 11%.
“If these measures are implemented, tariffs for all non-domestic consumers may be reduced by about 20%,” Gerus explained.
