The Mayor of Kyiv Vitalii Klitschko has said that free tests in state medical institutions and laboratories are done to patients with suspected coronavirus and only on the recommendation of a doctor, the Kyiv City State Administration reports.
“A free PCR test for coronavirus can be done only for patients who have a suspicion of a disease. It is determined exclusively by the doctor! A patient with symptoms of coronavirus should contact their family doctor. His phone number is in the declaration, on the hospital’s website or in the registration office of a medical institution,” the capital’s mayor said.
To Klitschko, the patient need to call his or her family doctor, not go to an appointment. This is how the doctor learns about the symptoms and decides if a PCR test is needed. Further, if necessary, a mobile team will be sent to the patient’s home to select the biomaterial for the PCR test.
He clarified that if there is no way to call family doctor, and the patient is feeling unwell with symptoms like high temperature, shortness of breath and general weakness, it is necessary to call 103 for ambulance. Doctors will assess the patient’s condition and determine if there is a need for hospitalization. When patients with suspected coronavirus are hospitalized, the PCR test is also done free of charge.
“If you have not signed the declaration with your family doctor yet, you can still do it online, through the helsi.me system. Then you will be able to consult with your doctor by phone and not go unnecessarily to medical facilities, not expose yourself and others to possible danger. Those people who want to be tested without a doctor’s recommendation, or going abroad, returning to the country should understand that state laboratories are overloaded today. And, if there is a need for verification testing, they can do it in private laboratories,” the mayor of Kyiv summed up.
