Kateryna Flekman, General Director of the Information Agency “Journalist”, became a guest of the “Kyiv Morning” program on Central Channel. On the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the creation of the free multilingual online encyclopedia, Wikipedia guest and presenters talked about the profession of a journalist, specifics of such work, and sources of information and formats of work in this area.

“Our news agency works in different directions. Part of the editorial staff focused on working with relevant topics and information field. We quickly write news, put it on the news feed in three languages: Russian, Ukrainian and English. In addition, we have our own production, thanks to which we support many cultural events. For example, we cooperate with National Operetta of Ukraine, National Philharmonic of Ukraine, Kobzov Circus, Games of Heroes project and many other artistic and social projects. We make reports on the activities of our partners; we shoot interviews in the studio. Thus, we create our own content. In my opinion, work in the cultural and social sphere makes it possible to create your own news. Often there are young teams, young talents, about which very few people know. When you open them, it gives you the opportunity to create your own information about the occasion or event,” said general director of Information Agency “Journalist”.

Kateryna Flekman also noted that in the work of a journalist, love for her profession and understanding of responsibility to her audience is important.

“I believe that journalism is a field that needs love for its profession. From time to time I give lectures for third and fourth year students who master the profession of a journalist. For example, I had an interesting experience during such lectures at the Borys Hrynchenko Kyiv University. My students and I talked about what journalism is, after which we created a video clip where each student said what he thinks are the pros and cons of this profession. An interesting experience was a success. Current students are very fast. They have few restrictions, they are creative and interesting. When you see students who want to not only navigate information, but want to create creative formats, implement creative ideas, for this they spend not only their learning time, but also personal time, then, of course, I want to support them. That is why we practice the involvement of interns in our editorial office. We even had a program about teenagers. Leading this show was also a teenage girl. She spoke with guests about her own age. In my opinion, such formats expand the horizons; it allows you to overcome your own fears. It is also an opportunity to look at oneself from the outside, as the child presents himself. This allows you to do work on your own mistakes, to understand what else needs to be worked on. And our news agency in this case acts as a definite intermediary between talented children, students and the audience,” said the guest of the morning program.

At the same time, Kateryna Flekman noted that for the qualitative development of the profession it is important to combine academic education with practice, training courses and internships, because the modern world gives us ample opportunities for this. > “Academic education teaches you to think, analyze and represent yourself. It is important to compile. At the same time, it is extremely cool when there is practical experience that the student received “in the field”, he will not receive at the lecture, but at the lecture they give knowledge that is not “in the field”. There should be a creative approach with the ability of the child to choose. I am for a classical education, but with a combination of practice. Now at the weekend you can internship to participate as volunteers in a huge number of events. Opportunities are many. You can attend various courses of journalism, TV hosts, bloggers. In addition, they now hold many conferences, round tables, forums that can be attended, you can join such events as a volunteer, an activist, thus gaining new experience. This makes it possible to try and understand what you like, what does not work. It is important to consult with adults in order to direct their potential in the right direction.

For example, I often write down “pilots” with students who do not go anywhere, but it gives children the opportunity to practice, to feel in the profession, to understand how difficult, responsible process, costly process, requiring experience and concentration. We have feedback on the site, you can contact us, we always welcome new people, ”summed up the publicist and general director of Information Agency“ Journalist ”.
