EU plans to simplify the procedure for issuing visas for short stays and will use visa policies to encourage countries outside the EU to cooperate on migration issues. About this reports press service of the European Parliament.

"The main objective of visa reform is to facilitate travel for travelers for tourist, commercial or professional purposes, while simultaneously counteracting illegal migration and contributing to the national security of EU countries," the report says.
The new code establishes the procedures and conditions for issuing visas to citizens of more than a hundred countries that plan to visit the EU for up to 90 days during any 180-day period.
“Procedures for law-abiding travelers will be simplified, and there will be a direct link between visa and migration policies,” the EP reports.
Applications for a visa can be submitted from six months (instead of the current three) to 15 days before the trip.
The total visa fee will increase from € 60 to € 80. For persons under 18 years, a discount is possible. Children under 6 years old, students and researchers, as before, will be exempted from payment.
In addition, additional benefits are provided for high-class athletes and famous artists touring the EU. Persons who travel frequently in the EU will be able to count on multiple-entry visas.
Further, an informal agreement must approve the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties and the European Parliament itself. After that, the agreement will go to the EU Council.
Finally, the innovations will take effect six months after publication in the Official Journal of the EU.

Earlier, the “Journalist” reported that the UN told about the number perished refugees for the year in the Mediterranean.
