Iryna Suslova: Parliament passed a law eliminating discrimination against women in army

Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the second reading and in general adopted bill 6109 «On Amending Certain Laws of Ukraine on Ensuring Equal Rights and Opportunities for Women and Men in Military Service in Armed Forces of Ukraine and Other Military Formations», which eliminates discrimination against women in army.

This was reported by author of the bill, People’s Deputy of Ukraine Iryna Suslova.

«So far, many people have been prejudiced against women military. Our legislation contributed to this, because it created unequal conditions of service for women and men and formed a kind of «glass ceiling» that prevented women from achieving career successes. But the bill 6109 will change everything. It is based on principles of equal rights, equal opportunities and equal responsibility. Equal opportunities are when the whole system is imprisoned not in discrimination and segregation, but in cooperation between women and men for the sake of the overall result», Iryna Suslova said.

According to her, bill 6109 will equalize opportunities for concluding a contract and when leaving for reserve, during the passage of military duties and unifies measure of responsibility for performance of the tasks assigned. Adoption of this document opens the way to success in the Armed Forces for thousands of women who tomorrow will become the pride of our army.

Iryna Suslova thanked everyone who helped to bring the bill to the final vote, as well as to those people’s deputies who supported the legislative initiative.

«Every vote presented for bill 6109 is a contribution to strengthening the defense capability of the state, this is a step towards modernizing the army, this is an expansion of capabilities of thousands of women who want and can serve Ukraine», Iryna Suslova is convinced.
