Rescue boat carrying 629 refugees and migrants stranded in Mediterranean because no European country will let it dock since June, 9. This is reported by «LB.ua»
The European charity SOS Mediterranee reported, that its rescue boat Aquarius had taken on board 629 migrants from Africa who have suffered a disaster in the sea near Libya. Until now, no country has agreed to let them at port.
It is noted that Italy is refusing to let a Aquarius to dock at its ports but has instead asked Malta take them in. But Malta also refused to accept the ship. In turn, the UN noted that now it is necessary to save people.
«People are in distress, are running out of provisions and need help quickly. Broader issues such as who has responsibility and how these responsibilities can best be shared between states should be looked at later», – said Vincent Cochetel, the UNHCR’s special envoy for the central Mediterranean.
