Ukraine’s bread price increased by 22%

Over the past 2018, the ‘breadbasket’ in Ukraine has added UAH 12.5 to its price. At the same time, the cost of bread will continue to grow in the current year. This was stated by General Director of the Association of Suppliers of retail chains Oleksiy Doroshenko on his Facebook page.
According to him, the ’breadbasket’ cost (which included a kilogram of wheat bread made from first and top grade flour, rye bread and half a kilo of loaf) was UAH 70.2 at the end of December 2018, while at the end of last year it cost UAH 57.7.
Thus, its price increased by 22%, or UAH 12.5.
“Consumer inflation in the period from December 2017 to December 2018 was 10%. That is, the bread price risen 2.2 times faster than the increase in the average price level in the country. Which emphasizes once more time, that the most socially vulnerable groups of the population have to tighten their belts,” Doroshenko said.
According to him, in 2019, the bread prices will continue to grow "faster than the inflation rate."
“But the price increase will be lower and will be up to 15% per year,” the expert said.
