Lyashko: COVID-19 death toll in Ukraine could be 145,000 without quarantine measures introduced

The chief sanitary doctor Viktor Lyashko during his briefing held on June 18, said that without quarantine measures introduced in Ukraine in March, 145,000 people could have become victims of coronavirus infection before the end of 2020.

“Without quarantine measures imposed in March, then we would have had the most depressing scenario: without quarantine measures about 145,000 Ukrainians could have died from coronavirus by the end of this year,” the chief sanitary doctor said.

According to Lyashko, without quarantine, from April 25 Ukraine could have faced the deficit of beds in intensive care units in hospitals and significantly increased mortality rate.

Lyashko also noted that Ukraine how has a moderate scenario of spread of the coronavirus.
