President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has announced his intention to monetize energy subsidies as soon as possible. He said this during his visit to the Volyn oblast, Interfax-Ukraine reported.
“I declare and convince, we will do this [monetization of the subsidy – ed.] Nnow,” the president’s statement said.
It is noted that if a person uses less gas, then he will be granted subsidies in cash.
“I came to this conclusion not only because I want to protect people, but because where people without subsidies pay in cash per square meter – they use half of the gas amount,” the head of state said.
In addition, Poroshenko noted that Ukraine should become non-volatile in the next five years, and will switch to domestic gas consumption.
“My goal for the next five years is to make Ukraine non-volatile. We must satisfy our needs with our gas. We need to stop someone stealing this gas, and then write it off on the national debt,” said Poroshenko.
