National Bank sold USD 40 mln at auction to slow down depreciation of hryvnia

On September 4, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) sold USD 40.1 million from the currency reserves of Ukraine with the aim to slow down the depreciation of hryvnia. This is reported by Radio Liberty, citing the the National Bank of Ukraine.
It is reported that during the auction 27 bids were satisfied.
According to the information provided by the National Bank, following the results of the auction, weighted exchange rate set at 28.4844 hryvnia per US dollar, the reference value of the hryvnia to the dollar rate today fell to 28.5035 hryvnia per US dollar.

«On September 4, the hryvnia rate was set by the NBU at 28.387 UAH per dollar. The rate of the American currency has been steadily growing since the beginning of August, when the interbank foreign exchange market was given 27 hryvnia per dollar,» – the report said.

As The Journalist reported earlier, the National Bank said that they are not obliged to keep the hryvnia rate.
