The US State Department Special representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker has listed countries which declared their readiness to send their representatives for the formation of the UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas.
The US State Department special representative said this in an interview with the Ekho Moskvy Radio.
Volker has noted that the peacekeeping mission should have a UN mandate.
«The organization of peacekeepers’ deployment, and at what stage, is subject to discussion. After full deployment, this should be genuine peacekeeping forces controlling the security situation,» – the US Special Representative said.
At the same time, Volker did not specify the number of peacekeeping mission personnel.
«As for the countries, a number of states have already stated they will be ready to contribute to the mission. This was announced by Sweden, Finland, Austria, Belarus, Serbia and Turkey. In my opinion, this is a good range of countries that includes several states that are viewed in Russia more as part of the West, while several states as part of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and I believe that a sense of balance would be logical,» – said Mr Volker.
«The important thing here is the status of the so-called People’s Republics. They were created by Russia inside Ukraine. They do not have local legitimacy. They are completely illegitimate within the framework of the Minsk agreements,» – the American representative added.
As The Journalist reported, possible UN peacekeeping mission deployment in Donbas to take a year.
