On the night of August 16, a heavy rain with a thunderstorm occurred in Kiev. As a result, some streets were turned out to be flooded. This is reported by a number of publications and users of social networks, as well as by the press service of the State Service for Emergency Situations.
Strongly flooded was the central street of the Ukraine’s capital, Khreshchatyk. The sewers did not manage to cope with such amount of water. Underground walkways have also been flooded. In addition, reports on flooded cars have been received repeatedly.
On the morning of August 16, fallen trees were removed from the Petrivs’ka Alley (opposite to the Valeriy Lobanovskyi Dynamo Stadium entrance), three trees were removed from the intersection of Dehtiarivska and Dovzhenko streets. Also fallen trees were felled on Trehsvyatitelskaya, Rusanivska Embankment, Wanda Wasilewska and Bolshaya Vasilkovskaya streets. According to rescuers, the bad weather tore off part of the metal roof from a 5-story residential building on Moskovskaya St.
Work on pumping out water is under way. In particular, 45 cubic meters were pumped from the roadway at the crossroads of Oleny Telihy and Shchusieva streets.
