Ombudsman: Balukh’s condition worsened considerably due to numerous beatings

The state of illegally imprisoned Volodymyr Balukh, who announced an unlimited hunger strike on March 19 and has protested for 192 days, has deteriorated significantly due to numerous beatings of liver, back and head. About this yesterday, September 25, on her page in Facebook written by Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmila Denysova.

According to preliminary information, prisoner of Kremlin was beaten in penitentiary institution of annexed by the Russian Federation Crimea on September 13, 2018.

«After physical violence by administration of penitentiary institution, he received numerous beatings of the liver, back and head. This significantly worsened his health … Volodymyr is now vitally need for qualified medical care. I hope that in the near future International Committee of Red Cross will send independent medical workers to it», ombudsman said.

According to report, Denysova urged vice-president of International Committee of Red Cross, Gilles Carbonier, to urgently facilitate doctors’ visit to Balukh.
Recall, activist was sentenced to five years in prison on totality of two cases against him. It is a question of accusation of possession of ammunition and «beating» head of temporary detention facility. Cause of persecution of Balukh human rights defenders call his pro-Ukrainian position.
