Opendatabot: 1.5 mln canceled passports are still circulating in Ukraine

This is reported by Radio Liberty with reference to the Opendatabot monitoring service based on data from the Ministry of the Interior Affairs of Ukraine.
Most often, after the document is being cancelled, it is withdrawn by the State Migration Service, but the passport can also be lost, stolen or not given back after its owner’s death.

«According to statistics, from 1.5 million invalid passports, passed by the State Migration Service, 1.3 of them were lost, 90 thousand were stolen, and 25.7 thousand belonged to deceased citizens. A contract signed with the use of such a passport will be considered as invalid,» – the message says.

Opendatabot warned that the canceled passport could be used by fraudsters in case the document was not withdrawn by State Migration Service officers.
On the eve of the signing of important agreements, such as loans or rental of real estate, the monitoring service advice to check the people’s documents in the relevant department of the State Migration Service.
