A law on the basic principles and requirements for organic production, circulation and labeling of organic products came into force on August 2, as the press service of the government reported.
The law provides for a labeling design for organic products. It also provides for fines against manufacturers who violated label requirements for their organic products.
The fines ranges from five to eight minimum wages (up to UAH 33,300, or USD 1,300).
A register of certification bodies will start to operate in Ukraine and will provide relevant certificates of the organic origin of the products.
The State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection., in its turn, will carry out inspections of organic producers.
