Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection of Ukraine Oleksiy Orzhel has said that Ukraine will be able to provide Ukrainians with gas and coal reserves for the winter, even in case Russia ceases gas transit on January 1, 2020. He announced this on the air of the “Freedom of Speech” panel show.
The Minister noted that Ukraine today has record gas reserves in underground storage facilities, as well as coal in warehouses.
“It means Ukraine will not freeze without gas transit this winter. Even without it, we will provide energy for every Ukrainian, every Ukrainian business. This was the first priority,” Orzhel said.
The head of the ministry noted that usually the ‘risky’ period begins in February-March, when reserves of natural gas in storage reduced; however, according to the calculations of the gas transmission system of Ukraine, there will be enough gas to supply consumers even during this period.
Minister of Energy: Gazprom’s offer on gas transit unacceptable to Ukraine.
