Parliament extends law on special status of Donbas for a year

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine voted for the bill that extended the law on a special order of local self-governance in certain areas of Donbas, UNN reports.

Some 320 MPs backed this law.

The bill provides for the creation of additional temporary opportunities for the implementation of legislative conditions aimed at a peaceful settlement of the situation in certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts based on the principles and norms of international law and the UN Charter.

The bill comes into force from the day of its publication, and the law on the “special status” of Donbas valid until December 31, 2020.
