In order to ensure passenger traffic on railway transport, in the next five years, 111.6 billion UAH should be invested in this direction of transportation. This was stated by the Director of PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia on strategic development and investment policy Anton Sabolevskiy, reported on the department’s website.
According to him, passenger transportation for the company is deeply unprofitable, and the state does not compensate for these costs. That is why Ukrzaliznytsia activates work on the reform of the passenger vertical.
As Sabolevskiy informed, the experts have already prepared and submitted for consideration by the Committee on the UZ reformation, proposals for the further reorganization of the work of the Passenger Company branch of PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia. They also analyzed the experience of Poland and Germany, which showed that railway station companies receive most of their income from additional services.
«The task of this vertical is to achieve self-sufficiency. To do this, there are two main sources of income: the provision of services to carriers and additional services, services provided by passenger terminals», explained Sabolevskiy.
UZ added that last year the company’s losses amounted to UAH 10 billion, of which UAH 6 billion is the share of long-distance trains.
Previously, The Journalist reported that Ukrzaliznytsia conducts rebranding.
