On the eve of this weekend, the original of Peter the Great’s charter arrived in Ukraine from Germany. This is reported by the Minister of Culture Yevhen Nyschuk on his Facebook page.
“Meanwhile, an emergency took place tonight — a unique cultural value arrived in Ukraine from Germany — a historical document — Peter I’s Diploma. With my deputy Tamara Mazur, I personally met an artifact at the Boryspil International Airport. The artifact, dated 1708, was lost during the Second World War, and since the late 50s it has been located in the library of the Institute of Eastern European History and Regional Studies of the University of Tübingen (Federal Land of Baden-Württemberg).
It is really a very interesting handwritten parchment, measuring 80 by 58 cm in silver-gilded frame. Upon return, the document was delivered to the Sofia Kyivska National Reserve, where very soon we will submit the Certificate to the examination.
This program was the result of the work of the Intergovernmental Commission on the Return of Displaced Cultural Property during the Second World War, chaired by my First Deputy Svetlana Fomenko and Dr. Michael Jansen, Ambassador-at-Large of the German Foreign Ministry. ”
Recall that the decision of Germany to return the letter to Ukraine became known on March 14. It was transferred to the Ambassador of Ukraine in Germany.
As the Journalist reported “Volcano” movie premiere took place in Kyiv.
