An online petition for resignation of Interior Minister Arsen Avakov collected over 26,000 signatures, the required number for its consideration, as presidential website reported.
The petition “On the immediate suspension from office, followed by the dismissal of the Minister of Internal Affairs Avakov” was filed by a citizen of Ukraine Roman Vasylenko.
The question of Avakov’s resignation was raised in connection with the death of a 5-year-old boy in Pereiaslav-Khmelnytskyi, shot by police officers.
Recently, the Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said he did not see the expediency of the resignation of the head of the National Police, Serhiy Kniazev, and did not plan to resign himself.
