President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko awarded Order of Merit of III grade to American actor John Malkovich, the press service of the head of statereported.
The award ceremony took place in the framework of the concert «Roads of Friendship. Ravenna – Kyiv», which took place on the eve, July 1st, in Kyiv on Sofiyska Square.
The President presented a high state award for his significant personal contribution to the development of international cultural cooperation, upholding the values of peace and freedom, supporting state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. In addition to Malkovich, the Order of Merit of the third grade was awarded to the conductor Ricardo Mutti, the Order of Merit of the 1st grade was presented to the curator of the project «Roads of Friendship. Ravenna-Kyiv», Professor Nicolo Franco Bologna.
«From the bottom of my heart I wish everyone well-being, creative inspiration, success and joy. Let the music cross borders and fill the hearts with beauty, harmony and goodness», Poroshenko wished.
«A thousand years ago here, on Sofiyskaya Square, when Kyiv was one of the centers of Eastern Europe, here was the cultural life of all Europe. And today Ukraine is returning to Europe», the president is convinced.
