UN peacekeepers can be deployed in Ukraine not earlier than in 10 months after relevant decision

The Ukrainian representative of the Tripartite Contact Group (TCG) subgroup on security issues for the settlement of the situation in Donbas, Evhen Marchuk, has stated that the United Nations peacekeepers «can arrive in Ukraine not earlier than 10 months after the decision on their direction.

Commenting on the procedure of sending peacekeeping contingent, Marchuk noted that after the relevant decision which will be adopted by the UN, it will take a long time still, UNIAN news agency reported.

«There are no troops of UN peacekeeping forces, they are formed every time for a specific tasks. Further, a group will be sent to the territory of Ukraine for inspecting the situation,» – the TCG representative explained and added that this should give an answer to the question for the necessary number of peacekeeping contingent, its functions, determining the level of danger for personnel and the rotation period.

Then the mission’s budget will be developed, and at the same time the UN Secretariat works with countries that can send peacekeepers.

«Ukraine has put forward a demand, who cannot participate in the peacekeeping contingent,» – Marchuk said.

As The Journalist reported, number of countries ready to send peacekeepers to Donbas were named.
